The Two Minutes Hate is a daily ritual performed by the members of the party in the book's dystopian society. During the Two Minutes Hate, the party members watch films of people like Goldstein who are enemies of the Party. They scream in hatred at these people.The Two Minutes Hate is an outlet for all the pent-up aggression and hostility experienced by outer Party members who live miserable lives of material deprivation and who are not supposed to enjoy.Both meanings of hatred can be applied to 1984, as it offers us a vision of a world dominated by hatred as a form of ideology and by hatred that resides in the minds of many Party members. All subsequent crimes against the Party, all treacheries, acts of sabotage, heresies, deviations, sprang directly out of his teaching.
It seems odd that these two characters have never made an entrance, yet Orwell (the author) has given them such a large influence. Another incredulous theme of the book is the Two Minute Hate. Citizens are interrupted to watch a telecasted film on the enemies of the Party, in which they express their hate.
